British filmmaker Sam Mendes will helm the project as director, describing the bold creative decision as the Beatles story being too big for just one film. Announced at CinemaCon at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, all four cast members walked onto the stage in varied all-black outfits.
And just so you were wondering about how this will effect the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison (the deceased members), their families, as well as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr gave their blessings to Mendes.

- Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. The south Londoner will play the founder and co-lead vocalist.
- Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney. The recent Gladiator will play the bass guitarist.
- Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The last big role we saw the Irish actor in was slurping Jacob Elordi’s bath water in Saltburn. Now, Keoghan will play the band’s drummer.
- Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, who was the lead guitarist. Mescal and Quinn reunite after both starring in Ridley Scott’s 2024 Gladiator II.

Who is directing The Beatles?
The Fab Four’s biopic has been waiting in the wings of British director Sam Mendes. Mendes is best known for his Oscar-winning directorial debut American Beauty (1999), as well as directing to James Bond films, Sky Fall and Spectre. The Reading-native’s last feature was Empire of Light, another Academy favourite starring Olivia Coleman.
Mendes announced the official cast during CinemaCon at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Along with the casting, he also announced that there will be four Beatles films in total, one told from each perspective of the band members. Mendes described the bold creative decision that the Beatles story as “too big for one film”. Mendes hasn’t confirmed the order of the releases, while also mentioning that it will take more than one year to produce all four movies.
Along with Mendes, Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor of Neal Street will produce the Beatles films.

When will The Beatles movies be released?
Mendes announced that all four Beatles biopics will be released in the same month: April 2028. He described the quartet release as a “bingeable moment in cinema”.
