The best bit of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show was actually on his wrist
Halftime show, full time watch legend

ANTICIPATION over just how big Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny (aka Benito Ocasio) would go when he stepped on stage for the Super Bowl LX halftime show was always going to be huge. And the Bunny delivered. From the music, the staging, the walking bushes to the cultural weight of the moment. For those paying closer attention, there was also a watch. A flash on the wrist, peaking out from underneath the custom Zara number he was wearing, sat a yellow-gold Royal Oak with a green malachite dial, a new release from Audemars Piguet. More formally, a Royal Oak Selfwinding 37 mm in yellow gold, reference 15553BA.OO.1356BA.04.
The model is part of a pair of new Royal Oak releases announced this month, and will be available in both 37 mm and 41 mm sizes. Bad Bunny wore the smaller case, paired with an integrated yellow-gold bracelet and a polished malachite stone dial. Each dial is naturally unique, defined by the mineral’s layered green banding, formed through its crystalline structure and copper content.

The 37 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding is powered by Audemars Piguet’s in-house Calibre 5909. It offers a minimum power reserve of 60 hours and displays hours, minutes and central seconds. The case is water resistant to 50 metres and fitted with a glareproof sapphire crystal on both the front and caseback. The dial features applied yellow-gold hour markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.
Stone dials have long existed at the edge of traditional watchmaking. Even meteorites have made their way down from the depths of space to end up on some lucky punter’s wrist. They require additional care in manufacturing and are produced in limited quantities due to the material itself. Audemars Piguet has explored this territory before, most recently with the turquoise dial Royal Oaks released in 2023. As a personal fan of green – and the rich texture of malachite – this is definitely up there as one of the most visually striking editions to come out this year.
