THE STAR SYDNEY has seen its share of theatre over the years, but on Sunday night the forecourt was given over almost entirely to menswear. The 66th annual Logie Awards brought out the full cross-section of Australian television, with the gents providing some sharp takes on red carpet attire.

Attending this year’s annual gathering of Australia’s best and brightest included perennial Esquire favourite and Logies regular, Lincoln Younes, who proved that not all eveningwear need be black. Thomas Weatherall, who has been nominated twice over for his work in Heartbreak High and The Narrow Road to the Deep North, countered that black is always on point.

Also spotted were former Esquire cover stars Simon Baker (the man is ageing like fine wine), former Bachelor Matthew “Matty J” Johnson and actor Nicholas Burton.

The new era Logies remains a useful case study in how far Australian menswear on the red carpet has come. Gone is the era of ill-fitting rental tuxedos. In their place: tailoring that respects the body wearing it, colour used with intention, and men who look like they know exactly what they’ve put on. Here’s who else got it right.
