The best-dressed men at The Venice International Film Festival
Even more than the Oscars, VIFF sets a bar as the year's most glamorous film festival

WHEN IT COMES to grand entrances, no one does it quite like The Venice International Film Festival (VIFF). In contrast to its sibling festival in Cannes, where the French festival stages its arrivals almost entirely on carpet, the Lido at VIFF spreads the performance across water taxis, the walk out of the Excelsior, hurried photocalls, and finally the steps of the Palazzo del Cinema. Double the dressing, double the scrutiny.
And guests have, so far, held up their end of the bargain. Leading the pack was Jonathan Bailey in what might be the most flawless example of a red carpet tuxedo by Giorgio Armani we have seen. In fact, it was a strong week for Armani, with He-Man’s Nicholas Galitzine and F1 legend Carlos Sainz Jr all repping the brand. Sinners star Jack O’Connell stepped out in custom Dior.
Historically, Venice has been fertile ground for some great menswear moments. Harry Styles once showed up in Gucci lapels wide enough to require their own gondola. Jacob Elordi made monochrome look like nonchalant, which is harder than it sounds. Timothée Chalamet stepped out in a backless Haider Ackermann halter for Bones and All in 2022, a look the festival still hasn’t fully recovered from.
