BOTTEGA VENETA Autumn 2026: Louise Trotter’s sophomore outing for the Italian house continued her exploration of Milan as a dual force of place and mood. Staged at the brand’s headquarters in the Palazzo San Fedele, the collection returned to the city centre, a setting that mirrored Trotter’s growing familiarity with her adopted home. She has spent the past year living in Milan, observing its character and the way its residents dress to navigate city’s rhythms.

The starting point for the season was an idea Trotter described backstage as the tension between Brutalism and sensuality. Milan’s architecture, she suggested, can appear severe on the surface while holding a softer interior. That contrast informed the structure of the menswear, where tailoring carried a sharper architectural line but was softened through proportion and material.

Silhouettes pushed outward at the edges. Jackets featured wider shoulders and a more sculpted line through the waist, allowing the body of the garment to flare gently over the hips. The effect created a strong outline without feeling rigid. The men’s suits followed the same curved construction seen in the women’s tailoring, though their styling leaned more relaxed, with layered polos and ribbed knitwear worn beneath.

Material experimentation played a central role. Outerwear referenced familiar shapes, such as the peacoat, but appeared in unexpected finishes including matte crocodile and versions of the house’s intrecciato weave that extended into textured fringes. Throughout the show, fabrics were manipulated to resemble other surfaces: silks mimicking shearling, brushed shearling treated to resemble fox and technical fibres woven into shaggy textures.

Accessories reinforced the everyday tone. Many looks were finished with simple knit beanies or fringed caps, adding a practical edge to the sculpted tailoring.

Within the broader collection, the menswear suggested a clear direction. Trotter’s focus on softening structure offered a way of rethinking tailoring without abandoning its discipline.
