David Beckham's colourful new world cup watch is the most talked-about release of the year
He turned up to watch Argentina take on Cape Verde in a new Tudor model

EARLIER THIS WEEK, David Beckham turned up in the Royal Box at Wimbledon with a brand-new watch on his wrist: a revamped Tudor Black Bay 58 dive watch.
It is one of the year’s strongest releases: handsome, comparatively accessible and well-engineered. So it was no surprise that its cameo at the tennis got people talking.
Still, it goes without saying that Beckham, a long-time Tudor ambassador, has plenty of options in his watch box. And for Argentina’s World Cup fixture against Cape Verde last night, the former footballer wore another new release from the Swiss brand.
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 has been dubbed the “Bumblebee”, thanks to its black-and-yellow accents on the dial and bezel. Like the aforementioned Black Bay, this colourful steel chronograph measures 39mm — a departure from previous models in the collection, which have stuck to 41mm. It is slimmer, too, with improved comfort on the wrist thanks to a new three-link bracelet. It arrived at the start of June and has already become one of the summer’s most talked-about watches.
The watch is powered by Tudor’s manufacture chronograph movement, the MT5813: a COSC-certified calibre featuring a column wheel, vertical clutch and a 70-hour power reserve. At £5,720, it is a lot of watch for the money.
It follows a run of bold Tudor colourways, including last year’s “Flamingo Blue” and “Lagoon Blue” models, and the pink Chrono that came before them — a favourite of Beckham’s, no doubt because it went so well with the kits of Inter Miami, the US football club he co-owns.
Both Wimbledon and the World Cup are far from over. The question is: what will he go for next?
