AS MELBOURNE prepared for the influx of tennis fans to descend upon Melbourne Park for the Australian Open, world number two player Jannik Sinner was holding court at a very different location. The Italian tennis maestro had arrived just days earlier to attend a private dinner function, hosted by Gucci, plush city eatery Reine & La Rue on Collins Street.

The night offered a rare chance for guests to meet the sportsman, and Gucci ambassador, up close ahead of the tournament. A far more relaxed setting, over dishes of tuna tartare with anchovy and potato galette followed by an umami-rich wagyu surloin over bone marrow mash and sauce vert, than the usual post-match media rounds.

While Sinner may have been the main course of the evening, the sweetener came with the reveal of Gucci’s new tennis capsule.

The collection looks back to Gucci’s early tennis references from the 1970s, translating them into sports-inspired ready-to-wear, handbags and accessories. For women, that means crisp pleated silhouettes finished with the House’s Web stripe, a fresh take on traditional tennis whites. Men’s polos nod to the same era, with sharper collars and a clean, considered cut. Accessories add a playful retro note through headbands and metallic aviators, while GG Monogram duffle bags and handbags reinforce Gucci’s long-standing connection to sport-driven craftsmanship.

A standout moment is the limited-edition tennis racket created with tennis brand HEAD. Designed using the Speed MP frame, it balances power and control, featuring an anti-vibration dampener alongside Gucci’s Web stripe and Interlocking G. It arrives in a custom blue case detailed with functional storage and an adjustable strap.
