Where, and how, to watch the Oscars ceremony in Australia
Watch it live or watch it later

THE OSCARS ARE OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY and this year is, for two reasons, one to get excited about. But more on that shortly.
No doubt, a fair number of Australians have quietly opened a second tab at work while pretending to check emails to monitor the red carpet and winners of the 98th Academy Awards with the event taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Where to watch the Oscars
For viewers on the east coast, red carpet coverage begins at 9am AEDT, with the ceremony starting at 11am AEDT. In Brisbane the carpet begins at 8am, Adelaide at 8.30am, Darwin at 7.30am, while Perth viewers needed to be up early with coverage kicking off from 6am.

In Australia, Channel 7 holds the exclusive broadcast rights for the Academy Awards. The ceremony is airing live on the network and streaming simultaneously on 7plus, which is the easiest option if you’re watching from the office, the couch or anywhere in between.
For the particularly committed, Channel 7’s Sunrise has been leaning into the action since 5.30am AEDT with early arrivals, red carpet commentary and the inevitable fashion breakdowns.
How to watch the Oscars after work
If a Monday morning awards show doesn’t quite fit your schedule, there is a fallback. Channel 7 will replay the ceremony at 9pm tonight, giving viewers the chance to catch the winners, speeches and viral moments later in the day.
Who is hosting?
This year’s ceremony is hosted by Conan O’Brien, returning after his widely praised debut last year. The presenter lineup includes a mix of Hollywood regulars and newer faces, with names such as Chris Evans, Javier Bardem, Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway and Paul Mescal expected to take the stage.

Who is nominated?
Australians also have a couple of reasons to keep a close eye on the results. Rose Byrne has earned her first Oscar nomination for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, while Jacob Elordi is recognised for his role in Frankenstein. Both actors have spent the past decade steadily building international careers, and their nominations add a welcome local thread to Hollywood’s biggest morning.
What are the Oscars?
The Oscars, formally known as the Academy Awards, are presented each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The ceremony recognises achievements across filmmaking, with awards spanning categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, as well as screenwriting, editing, cinematography and production design.
First held in 1929, the Academy Awards have grown into the film industry’s most widely recognised honour, celebrating the artists and craftspeople behind the year’s most notable movies.
