A SUN-DRENCHED SUNDAY afternoon before a long weekend is quite possibly the most joyous of all summer moments. Add centre-court tennis, a zesty lemon cocktail in hand, and a room full of impeccably dressed guests, and you have the perfect Australian Open equation.

Relaxed tailoring, navy cable-knit sweaters draped nonchalantly over shoulders, crisp shirting and a refined palette of sky blue, sand, navy and white defined the fashion mood at this year’s tournament. Think coastal prep at its most polished, classic American heritage codes softened for an Australian summer.

On the second Sunday of the tournament, that aesthetic came to life inside the Ralph Lauren hospitality suite, where an intimate gathering of Australian actors, musicians and creatives convened to celebrate the fourth round in style. Hosted in partnership with Esquire and Harper’s BAZAAR Australia, the luncheon championed elevated spectator dressing, where heritage sportswear met modern, understated ease.

Our attendees delivered a quiet masterclass in relaxed layering, with a subtle nod to collegiate prep. Linen and cotton suits were worn open over lightweight tees or fine-gauge cable knits. Menswear cues led the way, in the best possible sense, Oxford shirts tucked into pleated chinos, finished with loafers and ties. While accessories nod to Ralph Lauren’s American classic heritage, think leather hobo bags, woven totes, polo caps and silk scarves.

For actor Daniel Webber, courtside style came down to detail, a neatly tied neckerchief lending a studied yet soft finish to tailoring. The cue was echoed by All Her Fault actor Thomas Cocquerel, reinforcing the day’s subtle uniformity.

While the room was filled with familiar Australian faces, including Rachel Griffiths and Isabella Elordi, who is set to attend next month’s Oscars alongside her brother, nominee Jacob Elordi, it was Tina Arena whose presence delivered a welcome note of nostalgia. Fresh from a friend’s wedding in Sorrento, former AFL player Tom Derickx couldn’t miss the irony of being seated beside the Sorrento Moon singer herself, proof that the Australian Open has a flair for poetic pairings.

Elsewhere, XO, Kitty actor Peter Thunberg was enjoying a full-circle moment of his own. A near-miss tennis career made watching Tommy Paul take on top seed Carlos Alcaraz all the more compelling, complete with expert commentary shared generously with photographers and friends Georges Antoni and Jamie Green.
