Josh Heuston gets ready for Cannes in Louis Vuitton

IF ANY OF Australia’s rising stars were going to be flying the flag at this year’s Cannes, it would be Josh Heuston. The Sydney-born actor, best known for his roles in Heartbreak High and Dune: Prophecy, attended the premiere of his latest film, Dangerous Animals, over the weekend. Not one to get lost in the week-long festivities of a venerated cinematic institution, Heuston was appropriately suited up by one of France’s oldest fashion houses.

Cannes remains one of the last places where the biggest names in film can get a fit off, where even the Oscars has seen a casualisation in recent years. This, monsieur, is France. And while recent changes to the dress code left some attendees scrambling for last minute wardrobe changes, Heuston appeared level-headed with the help of Louis Vuitton.

Coming out of the weekend, Dangerous Animals is being described with a similar sense of frenzy by critics. Billed as the Ozploitation comeback no one saw coming, it’s a shark-meets-serial killer flick directed by Sean Byrne where we find Heuston as Moses, who has a one-night stand with the main character Zephyr (Hassie Harrison). Zephyr leaves in the middle of the night, going out for a surf where she’s abducted by Tucker (Jai Courtney), who gets off on kidnapping female tourists and ritualistically feeding them to the sharks.

The 28-year-old got ready in one of the finest tuxedos courtesy of the French maison, featuring a slight flare in the trouser (a hallmark of menswear creative director Pharrell at the brand). Completing the look was a tie finished with the Damier print, the same check-pattern that covers the brand’s trunks and bags. At a time when men on the red carpet strive for a moment, ties have become an outlet for such strokes of individuality – Heuston’s was perfectly understated for his Cannes debut.
