AS PETROL PRICES
– among other things – continue to soar, organising a date night or a simple get-together has become a budget negotiation. Thankfully, the pleasure that can come from a simple movie night at home, with your favourite cocktail or whisky as an added bonus, remains unbeatable. Just wanna hang out? Sure, let’s watch every episode of our favourite TV show and get into some healthy yapping at the same time. It helps that there’s plenty to watch on Netflix at the moment.

First, Beef is getting a second season with a new cast featuring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Then there’s a life raft for Stranger Things fans in the form of a spin-off animated series. On the film front, psychological/survival thriller Apex premieres April 24th, with Taron Egerton and Charlize Theron in the leading roles, plus Him is making its streaming debut.

In any case, it’s a good time to have a Netflix subscription. The streaming service is packed with content, and this April will see yet another wave of new shows and movies heading to the platform. The new content is arriving in such quantities that choosing what to watch becomes its own challenge. That’s where we come in. To help you find what’s worth watching on Netflix in April, we’ve rounded up the best new pieces of content coming to the streamer.

Scroll on, and get ready to add to your watchlist.

Beef, season 2 (April 16th)

Following the back and forth, eye for an eye feud between a handyman (Steven Yeun) and a successful businesswoman (Ali Wong), the first season of Beef was a global success. Now, a second season brings in a new cast and new beef. Season two replaces road rage with a workplace feud and a generational divide. A Gen-Z couple (Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton) are up against their wealthy boss and his wife (Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan), following a tiff at a bourgeois country club that will almost certainly lead to a downward spiral.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 (April 23rd)

If you’re still mourning the death of Stranger Things, a reprieve will arrive in the form of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85. The new animated series is set between the second and third seasons of the show, with the gang facing new monsters from a parallel dimension. None of the original cast is lending their voice to the series, but Odessa A’Zion will feature as a new character, Nikki Baxter.

Apex (April 24th)

New survival thriller Apex was shot on location in New South Wales and stars Charlize Theron as a grieving woman embarking on a solo adventure in the Australian wilderness. She won’t get through it without trouble, however. Once she’s all alone, Taron Egerton, playing a local with a passable Aussie accent, informs her he will be hunting her for sport and that she best start running.

Him (April 24th)

Sports horror Him was heavily hyped leading up to its release in late-2025. Jordan Peele, who serves as the film’s producer, has a seriously impressive track record in the horror genre. But Him received mixed reviews. Still, it’s about to make its streaming debut, and some films are better watched from home anyway. Him follows Cam Cade (Tyriq Withers), a rising young quarterback on the verge of making it to the big leagues before suffering a potentially career-ending brain injury. When he’s offered an opportunity to be trained by his childhood hero and the quarterback of his favourite team, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), Cam jumps at the opportunity – but the experience is not what he expected.

A Gorilla Story: Told By David Attenborough (April 17th)

Look, David Attenborough is 99 years old and turns 100 in May. We may not get many more documentaries from him. It’s a sad reality, but what it means is that we really can’t take Attenborough’s new projects for granted. His latest doco is A Gorilla Story, which begins with his first encounter with a baby gorilla named Pablo in the 1970s and follows Pablo on his journey to becoming a dominant silverback and checks in on how his direct descendants are doing today.
