Everything coming to Netflix Australia in July

July will see a handful of comedies in 'The Hawk' and '72 Hours', plus a new 'Little House on the Prairie' series and the arrival of 'Sinners'

IT’S THE END of the financial year, which can either be a time of belt tightening or a financial windfall, depending on where you stand with the ATO. Either way, it’s a good time to review your streaming subscriptions. Has Netflix done enough to survive another month on your bank statement? The ongoing streaming wars have created a competitive landscape, and as such, every month sees the big streamers battling for market share with blockbuster films and new hit series. Netflix, sitting atop the streaming pedestal, is not immune to pressure.

Netflix cannot simply rest on its laurels. As such, each new month sees a new wave of content come to the streamer. July will be no different, with a number of highly anticipated series and films debuting. First, there’s a new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie – with an Australian in the leading role, to boot. Then there’s The Hawk – a revamp of the golf comedy starring Will Ferrell – and 72 Hours, in which Kevin Hart gate crashes a 20-year-old’s bachelor party.

In any case, it’s a good time to have a Netflix subscription. But the new content is arriving in such quantities that choosing what to watch becomes its own challenge. That’s where we come in. The Hawk (July 16th)

Golf comedy is a well-worn fairway. You would think that Happy Gilmore and it’s 2025 sequel would have already squeezed all of the juice from that lemon. But if there’s anyone we trust to bring an entertaining new perspective to the genre, it’s Will Ferrell. The Hawk will see Ferrell play Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins, who was the world’s number one golfer back in 2004, but is now fighting to maintain some relevancy. He’s also navigating life with his ex-wife Stacy (Molly Shannon) and his son Lance (Jimmy Tatro), who just so happens to be golf’s new top dog.

Little House on the Prairie (July 9th)

If you grew up watching the original nine-season run of Little House on the Prairie, you’ll want to get the nostalgia going with a new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic books. The new Little House series, which has already been renewed for a second season, reimagines it’s source material as a family drama, epic survival tale and origin story of the American West. It stars Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, Alice Halsey and someone by the name of Skywalker Hughes – we’re guessing someone’s parents were Star Wars fans.

Human Vapour ( June 9th)

After a mysterious, gruesome death on live TV, a suspended detective and an ambitious reporter come to believe that the culprit can turn into gas. As they dig deeper, they discover a secret project that used and discarded the vulnerable while the murderer continues their string of public assassinations.

72 Hours (July 24th)

72 Hours stars Kevin Hart as an out of touch executive who is accidentally added into a group chat with three Gen Zers planning a bachelor party in Miami. Naturally, he decides to come along for the party because he was technically invited. As you’d expect, hilarity ensues.

Sinners (July 4th)

If you still haven’t seen Sinners, now is the time. Ryan Coogler’s film, which won four Oscars earlier this year, is finally coming to Netflix on July 4. The vampire tale follows two twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan, who won Best Actor for the dual roles) who return to their Mississippi hometown to start anew, only to find that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Heartstopper Forever (July 17th)

A farewell film for the beloved series, Heartstopper Forever will wrap up Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie’s (Joe Locke) journeys. After a swoony season three finale, the couple is now inseparable. Although, with a long-distance relationship staring them in the face as Nick prepares to leave for university, doubts take hold.
