The best new series and films coming to Netflix Australia in June
June will see a handful of football-related content ahead of the world cup, as well as highly anticipated releases like 'Office Romance' and the second season of 'Avatar the Last Airbender'

WINTER IS HERE. And with it, we’ve officially entered peak streaming season. Long gone are the afternoons spent by the beach and the golden hours spent at fancy dinners. Now, once work is done, it’s straight home and onto the couch to watch whatever has caught your interest lately. That might sound depressing, but you needn’t see it that way. Try reframing it: there’s a lot to like about a quiet night at home, especially when the quality of what you’re watching has never been higher. We are living in the golden age of streaming, after all.
Leading that golden age is Netflix. June will be par for the course for the streamer, with a number of highly anticipated releases. First, with the FIFA World Cup kicking off mid-way through the month, you might want to get yourself into the appropriate state of hype. Luckily, Netflix has a world cup-related film, documentary and docu-series to serve as the catalysts. Then you can scratch your rom-com itch with Office Romance (which is exactly what it sounds like) or check out one of the biggest films of 2024 with Gladiator II.
In any case, it’s a good time to have a Netflix subscription. The streaming service is packed with content, and this June will see yet another wave of new shows and movies heading to the platform. The new content is arriving in such quantities that choosing what to watch becomes its own challenge. That’s where we come in. To help you find what’s worth watching on Netflix in June, we’ve rounded up the best new pieces of content coming to the streamer.
Scroll on, and get ready to add to your watchlist.

Avatar the Last Airbender, season 2 (June 25th)
Season one was mid by all accounts, but we’re not ready to give up on Netflix’s live action remake of Avatar the Last Airbender. Like in the original animated series, season two will see the motley crew of heroes travel into the Earth Kingdom in search of support in their fight against the Fire Nation. Meanwhile, a new character joins the gang and Aang continues his journey towards mastering all four elements.
USA 94: Brazil’s return to Glory (June 7th)

If you’re trying to induce football fever before the 2026 World Cup, why not take a trip down memory lane to the last time the tournament was hosted in North America? USA 94: Brazil’s return to Glory takes us behind the scenes of Brazil’s title run at the 1994 tournament with player interviews and in-depth insights from the people who were there. Not to stare too deeply into our crystal balls, but that world cup snapped a 24-year drought for Brazil, and it has now been 24 years since the last time the nation lifted the world cup trophy in 2002. Of course, 1994 was also the last time the world cup was hosted by the USA. There could be something in that.
Norway: The Dark Horse ( June 9th)
While we do think calling a nation that hasn’t qualified for the world cup since 1998 and has never won a knockout game a “dark horse” might be putting the horse before the cart, there’s no denying this Norwegian team is exciting. Striker Erling Haaland is the best goal scorer in football, and attacking talents like Martin Ødegaard, Antonio Nusa, Oscar Bobb and Alexander Sørloth make Norway one of the most entertaining teams to watch. So, if you need to get behind an underdog ahead of the world cup, this docu-series that details Norway’s journey back to the big stage could be for you.

Office Romance (June 5th)
Office Romance should be able to provide this month’s rom-com fix. It stars Ted Lasso‘s Brett Goldstein (the perpetually grumpy Roy Kent) as the unlikely lead opposite Jennifer Lopez. The title says it all, really: JLo is a CEO with a strict policy against fraternisation with employees, but her attractive new hire might make her change her mind.
Mexico 86 (June 5th)
Mexico 86 is a comedy film about Mexico’s audacious bid to host the 1986 World Cup. It follows a Mexican bureaucrat (Diego Luna) who cons his way through FIFA to beat out a more favourable bid by the United States. This is, remarkably, based on a true story. So, how did he get it done? Suffice it to say that he didn’t play by the rules.
Gladiator II (June 27th)
Gladiator II was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024, and it’s finally making its streaming debut. The long-awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning original stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Russell Crowe’s Maximus Decimus Meridius, who was sent from Rome as a child to the far-flung region of Numidia for his own protection. Now, he’s brought back to the heart of the empire and, like his father, must fight in the colosseum while plotting to overthrow Rome’s tyrannical emperors. Denzel Washington gives a spirited performance as the scheming Macrinus.
