DIOR is coming back to Sydney.

From Friday August 14 to Sunday August 16, Primo El Sanchez on Crown Street becomes Sauvage House – part grooming parlour, part fragrance bar, part late-night cocktail den – built around the Sydney debut of Sauvage Extrait, the fourth concentration released from the Sauvage line and the first to be made under the direction of Dior’s current creative director for perfumes.

The OG Sauvage dropped back in 2015, composed by François Demachy. That first incarnation was built around Calabrian bergamot alongside a huge dose of Ambroxan, a synthetic resembling the musky note of ambergris but also extending the lifespan of a fragrance.

A bit of backstory: in 2018 an Eau de Parfum followed, joined by a Parfum in 2019.  Each version added a new density to the original formula. Then, in 2021 Francis Kurkdjian took over the reins as Dior’s Creative Director of perfumes.

Extrait is Kurkdjian’s first full reimagining of the Sauvage DNA. It opens exactly where the original did – bergamot, French lavender, a familiar hit of Ambroxan – before arriving at an entirely new ingredient, Vietnamese oud, layered with Atlas and Virginia cedar, Indonesian patchouli and vetiver from Madagascar.

At Sauvage House, that backstory gets its rightful spotlight. Guests can book a grooming consultation with Fernnando Miranda, whose regular clients include Josh Heuston, Troye Sivan and Ruel, treatment as follows: facial hair or a trim, then a hot towel ritual, facial massage and hydration finish. A concealed door leads from there into a 20-minute fragrance consultation with a Dior expert, and finally to the Sauvage Speakeasy Bar, where the cocktail list has been built to taste roughly like the fragrance smells, live music included.

Walk-ins can access the bar and the fragrance discovery, capacity allowing. The grooming chairs are bookings-only, and the ninety-minute slot includes a bottle of the Extrait to take home.

Bookings are live now at dior.com.

Sauvage House will be held at 410 Crown Street, Sydney, from 14 August – 16 August.
