AS THE OFFICIAL watch brand for Formula 1, big things were expected from TAG Heuer. And big things have been delivered with the launch of a new Formula 1 edition of its Connected Calibre E5 smartwatch. This time, the brand is leaning less on a symbolic connection and looking at the functional crossover between the two categories: timekeeping and racing. The Connected Calibre E5 45mm x Formula 1 is built around one simple idea: if you follow the sport closely, the new Connected Calibre will look more than just vaguely motorsport-adjacent. It’ll be a race immersion on the wrist.

Timed to the start of the 2026 season, the watch centres on a digital experience that mirrors the structure of a Grand Prix weekend. The main Race Track watch face updates automatically for each race on the calendar. Every Grand Prix gets its own layout, showing the circuit outline, race name and national flag, with the digital time sitting neatly below the track graphic. Across the season, that means 24 different designs cycling through as the championship moves from city to city.

There is a small animated marker that runs around the circuit outline to show the passing seconds. It is a restrained detail, but one that gives the screen a sense of movement without turning the watch face into a distraction.

The deeper functionality sits inside the dedicated Formula 1 app, which is built directly into the watch rather than sitting as an afterthought. From there, wearers can check the season calendar, session schedules, race results and current driver and team standings. The data is sourced from the FIA and delivered through both the app and glanceable widgets, so updates can be checked quickly without digging through menus. The interface follows the rhythm of a race weekend, with visual markers for practice sessions, qualifying and the race itself.

Physically, the watch stays close to TAG Heuer’s existing Connected Calibre E5 design, but with Formula 1-specific details layered in. The 45 mm case is made from Grade 2 titanium with a black DLC coating. Around the curved touchscreen bezel, markings reference the different phases of a Grand Prix weekend. The pushers are finished in black DLC with red lacquer accents, while the crown combines black rubber and steel. On the caseback, a heart rate sensor sits alongside a red Formula 1 logo.

Two straps are included. One pairs black leather with a carbon-pattern finish over a rubber base, stitched in red. The second is a stretch textile strap designed for comfort during training or sleep tracking. Packaging follows the same brief, finished in matte black with chequered-flag detailing.

The Connected Calibre E5 45mm x Formula 1 will be offered with a 48-hour early access window via TAG Heuer’s website from March 3, ahead of its broader release. For fans who already live by the race calendar, it is a smartwatch that finally treats Formula 1 as something to follow, not just reference.

RRP for the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 45mm Formula 1 is $3850 and is available at TAG Heuer boutiques.
