WHAT TO DO, what to read, what to wear, what to burn some cash on. Every week the Esquire team round up the things that have caught our eye across the cities and online to keep you in great taste and style…

Weather-ready trench coats, umbrellas that won’t break at the hint of wind and the best steak Melbourne has to offer? We’re in.

This Burberry trench coat

Burberry is celebrating 170 years of its iconic trench coat. That it remains such a stalwart style essential speaks to two things: it remains the perfect example of function and form in balance. And that great style never goes out of style.

Given how quickly Australian weather can turn, our pick is this dark green version made from lightweight cotton. This keeps the layering easy. Thrown over your suit or over jeans and a t-shirt. An investment that will last a lifetime.

A Davek NY Elite Umbrella

Wet weather? No worries.

Rather than wasting cash on poorly-made equipment, better to spend a little more on something that can go the distance.

Enter the Davek Elite. A full-length umbrella with a reinforced fibreglass frame, it holds its shape in wind and actually keeps you covered. Looks slick, too, which helps when you’re strolling through the city.

This Uniqlo 100% Australian Merino wool sweater

Australian wool? Tick

Good colour range? Tick.

Won’t break the bank? Tick, tick and tick.

Uniqlo offers an incredible array of essentials, but their knitwear category is truly formidable. This sweater made from Australian merino wool is machine washable so you don’t have to waste money on dry-cleaning. Our colour pick for this season was red, or “wine” as they’ve dubbed it.

These loafers by Prada

We wrote about the revival of the loafer recently and the selection available to men right now makes picking one impossible.

But these bring together several details that are hot right now: the slipper effect and the lightly scuffed, aged finish.

These new Apple AirPods Max 2

How good is it when you find the perfect headphones that just let you zone out and tune in?

This week, Apple dropped their latest over-ear headphones with AirPods Max 2, which are now powered by the H2 chip.

Noise cancellation is more effective, sound is cleaner, and features like Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness and Voice Isolation arrive. There’s also lossless audio via USB-C, plus tools for recording, translation and hands-free control.

Some art by Keanu Nelson Tjakamarra at China Heights

Shout out to Australian artist Shal (Shaun Daniel Allen) who got us into First Nations musician Keanu Nelson Tjakamarra late last year. We’ve had the Luritja artist on high rotation on Spotify so when we heard that China Heights would be exhibiting some of his art this month, the Esquire team were keen.

Keanu’s paintings draw on Yalka Tjukurrpa and other stories tied to Country, mapping water, movement and warning through recurring forms like Wanampi and Malu. It’s considered detailed work, grounded in knowledge passed down through family, and well worth seeing up close and taking a piece home for yourself.

An entire meat course at Rockpool Melbourne

If you’re in Melbourne and feeling the need to protein load, book the Victorian Beef Tasting at Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne. It’s a five-course run through the state’s best producers, moving from Mishima to Wagyu to Angus in a way you rarely get in a steakhouse.

The menu builds from lighter cuts and smaller portions into richer, more marbled beef, with each course showing a different breed, cut or preparation. Local wines follow suit. It finishes lighter, with yoghurt sorbet and green ants.
