WHAT TO DO, what to read, what to wear, what to burn some cash on. Every week the Esquire team round up the things that have caught our eye across the cities and online to keep you in great taste and style…

Our kingdom for a great shirt, one to wear on the weekend, sleeves rolled up and ready to kick back and relax. Too often, it’s been left behind as a corporate uniform, but a great shirt has its place as an off-duty staple. We found the perfect one courtesy of Comme des Garçons. Add to that, the latest book from Max Easton, which we hope to get into while nursing a drink at Death & Co., the famous New York bar that just opened the doors to its first Australian location down in Melbourne.

Check out the list below for this week’s The Want List.

Comme des Garçons striped cotton shirt

It’s time to revive the art of dressing for the day. A t-shirt is great around the home, but having a go-to collared shirt you can just roll the sleeves up on and hit the road running is a god-send.

Which is why this Comme shirt has made the list. A little more up-market than a daily oxford but with a relaxed fit that helps keep it all more low key. Perfect.

Now, Autonomy by Max Easton

If you haven’t already devoured Sydney-based writer Easton’s first two books (The Magpie Wing and Paradise Estate) go do so before you jump into this, the latest in the triology.

Set in the Inner West of Sydney, Now Autonomy pries back the veneer of suburban experiences and in the trenches of the area’s working class. Essential Australian reading, one that breaks free from the upper middle class fantasies that have dotted the landscape too often in recent years.

A Silver Monk at Death & Co.

We asked one of our regular writers where to grab a drink during our next visit to Melbourne, and their answer was immediate: you have to try Death & Co., especially the Silver Monk. (Shout out to food and restaurant critic, Michael Harry.)

An Australian leg of the acclaimed New York bar of the same name, the Silver Monk is made from Blanco tequila with some yellow chartreuse, bit of lime, some jalapeno and mint and is, by all accounts, damned good. Order the cheeseburger with caviar while you’re at it.

Charlton technical kimono

Cool is cool and this jacket is cool. Charlton’s limited run philosophy also means that once it sells out, it’s gone for good so no fretting you’ll see every other bloke in one any time soon. (We’re looking at you cropped shirts.)

Bottega Veneta lightweight trousers

They had us at lightweight and but the clincher was the trompe l’oeil waistline.

All that volume makes the perfect everyday pants for summer.

Saint Laurent ‘Shield” sunglasses

Yes. These are THE sunglasses from the campaign featuring Connor Storrie.

Perfect.

Re-Evolution by Mendittorosa

Italian fragrance house Mendittorosa launched three new scents this year but Re-Evolution is, to our noses, the most interesting. And perhaps the more challenging.

Mossy, watery, marine petrichor with hints of pepper make for something truly glorious, if not the most approachable scent. But you will be unforgettable, which is ultimately the best compliment.

Dior Saddle Heritage messenger bag

Downsize your daily necessities but elevate your style in one hit. The perfect bag does exist.
