Timothée Chalamet’s curls get the chop. The internet reacts
Another movie star hair transformation, another visceral reaction from the masses

TO KNOW TIMOTHÉE Chalamet is to know that the man has perfected his curly hair routine. For years, the 29-year-old has walked onto red carpets and stared down a paparazzi lens, with ringlets so defined that even the most high-tech DSLR camera couldn’t capture a hint of frizz. If indie-leaning films (think: Ladybird or Call Me By Your Name) and goofy charm helped to craft the persona that has Gen Z swooning, then the curly locks only enforced it.
That all changed this Valentine’s Day. During the German premiere for A Complete Unknown – a press tour that has really seen the actor experiment with his outfits – Chalamet debuted a new ‘do, and those curls didn’t make the cut.
“I miss his Dune hair” said one Redditor, while another pined for his CMBYN days. The short, coil-less hair had his fans surprised – likely amplified by the baby pink Chrome Hearts outfit he donned.

Then, he crossed the Channel to attend last night’s Baftas. To counter Friday’s ensemble, he got dressed up in an all-black, double-breasted suit from Bottega Veneta and Cartier necklace costing around $465,000.
His hair was still short (obviously) yet somehow straighter, opting for a sleeker look that really has ironed out any evidence of even a wave. The response is still undecided, yet TC isn’t. Those tousled tresses of yore have been tamed: RIP! The sales of curl mousse will never be the same!

That said, I am not opposed to this new era. In fact, last night proved that it actually looks quite good, and dare I say, more grown-up? His Baftas look spoke to a crowd whose style isn’t influenced by TikTok algorithms, and to those old enough to remember when Justin Bieber did it first. Maybe the man doesn’t want to be described as a Renaissance cherub now he’s approaching thirty?

Is this haircut permanent? Well, the last few months have shown that you can never predict what persona or look Chalamet will opt for. He’s probably already thinking about the next stunt. Scissors at the ready, chop, chop!
