Piaget chimes in with a new Polo Minute Repeater

Piaget has kicked off the month with a new Polo Minute Repeater, a five-piece chiming addition to its sports watch line that measures just 9.30mm thick despite the complication packed inside. The case is 18-karat white gold, 48mm across and water-resistant to 3 ATM, an unusual spec for a repeater given how sensitive the mechanism typically is to moisture.

The dial is gold, finished in hand guilloché to a soleillé pattern, with a gold fillet that shifts from straight to domed as it winds across the surface, opening sections to reveal the repeater mechanism beneath. At four o’clock, a smoked sapphire ring marks the inertia wheel, the component that regulates the chime.

Caliber 1290P sits behind it, built entirely at Piaget’s La Côte-aux-Fées manufacture from 430 components, with hand-beveled bridges and hammers polished to a mirror finish. The chime itself runs to 64 decibels across three harmonic partials, hours in G sharp and minutes in A sharp, both fifth octave.

Only five will be made this year, a number set by the hours each piece demands rather than any calculated scarcity. Piaget last pushed a repeater this thin back in 2013, inside the Polo Emperador case.
