TIME TO GET REAL – the watch game at this year’s Oscars was off the charts. Celebrities have clocked – pun – that what goes on the wrist gets as much attention as the designer of their suit.

Perhaps even a little more, we dare say.

This year’s Oscars became fertile ground for truly incredible watch spotting. To the point that it became a competitive sport trying to figure out if the Omega worn by Delroy Lindo was a vintage pieces or not and scrambling to be the first to break the news that Robert Pattison’s rose-gold Jaeger-LeCoultre was in fact an unreleased model.

Who needs the Olympics when we can shout at each other over the ins-and-outs of a celebrity’s watch?

But who wore what, and who wore it best, remains ever subjective, but check out the list below to read the Esquire team’s top timepieces from the night.

Michael B. Jordan

We love a vintage find and to know that this particular vintage Piaget, ref. 9297, was from the Best Actor winner’s personal collection is the icing on the cake.

Hudson Williams

The Heated Rivalry star – and his stylist – have locked in on a very specific Gen Z fashion-forward approach. Pairing Balenciaga suit with a Bvlgari Serpenti Tubogas? Sublime.

Zendaya

Fresh off the announcement in October that Zendaya had joined the Rolex family, the Dune star flexed one of the best of the night: a Rolex Lady-Datejust dripping in diamonds.

Ryan Coogler

Sinners director Ryan Coogler was, personally, the best dressed on ground in his custom Louis Vuitton suit. The sweetener was the Cartier Tank à Guichet with ox-blood (very vampiric) red leather strap.

Shaboozey

An example of a watch perfectly matching the wardrobe choice. Shaboozey’s 18k white gold Chopard, set with 7.04-carat diamonds, is part of the house’s L’Heure du Diamant Collection.

Wagner Moura

The definition of understated taste that makes a big impact. Moura’s Omega De Ville Prestige kept it classy.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The One Battle After Another star swapped out his familiar Daytona for the Rolex 1908. We have to say, it was the right choice for the night.

Joe Alwyn

This is how you mix good hardware and louche tailoring. Alwyn’s pick of Valentino finished with a Hublot Classic Fusion Essential is peak juxtaposition.

Pedro Pascal

After Pedro Pascal turned up at Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel show, we had high hopes of how he would collaborate with the French Maison. Et voila! The whole look is, of course, Chanel but opting for the large model Boy·Friend watch was the correct finishing touch.

Kumail Nanjiani

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton is an absolute machine of a timepiece that still has the elegance of a dress watch.

Kieran Culkin

After winning his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor last year, Culkin’s kept the gold theme running with a Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph.

Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum is a big guy (185cm to be exact) and you’d expect to see someone of that stature gravitate towards something heftier. Thankfully, no. Tatum’s pick for the night was an elegant Tiffany and Co Union Square piece. Excellent choice.

Chris Evans

Another actor of mass who opted for a watch of elegance over opulence. Evans wore a Chopard L.U.C XPS in 18k rose gold. Nice one bruv.
